Del homo academicus al homo economicus

Abstract

This article discusses the difficulties of evaluating the performance of faculty at the country's public universities. It attempts to throw light on some aspects of a thorny, complex phenomenon which affects the wallets (and consciences) of some of the main stakeholders in post-secondary education. In addition to critical reflection and analysis, the article includes some concrete—though potentially controversial—proposals which we believe may represent a solution to a problem which has been out of control for some time.
