Pragmatismo, ética y carrera académica en la educación superior mexicana
Keywords:

This article examines a set of relatively new concepts in Mexican policy-making, including post-secondary education policy as a concrete example of public policy. The present study investigates the motivating principles that have given rise to various decisions that impact on the academic community as it carries out its work. It can be seen that policy decisions often result from the needs of the more structured elements of government operation, as, for example, the case of the intersection between the political and the financial spheres. The study also found that it is this intersection which has given rise to the majority of decisions affecting the academic sphere, which have been made without consensus, openness or transparency, particularly in terms of the potential consequences for improvement or deterioration of the activities regulated by these policies. What types of consequences have public policies on post-secondary education had for the operation of the academic community? The answer is proposed in the title of this article [Pragmatism, Ethics and Academic Programs in Mexican Post-Secondary Education].
