Abstract

This essay is based on various experiences and reflec-tions deriving from the participation in several different projects involving the training and formation of university teachers and educational research, both at the UNAM and elsewhere. The work covered the situation and problems involved in teaching in its role as one of the most substantial tasks of any university. The essay begins by setting out the general problem situation of the task of teaching, its conditions and its possibilities. Some considerations as to the position of teaching in the construction of knowledge are then presented. Subse-quently, a proposal is developed for Teaching through Research, with a framework based on the Teaching-Research link, and including a theoretical-methodo-logical characterisation for this proposal. A close connection is pointed out to the postulates of the Professionalisation of Teaching. Finally the fact that the meta-message of this pedagogical strategy is innovation and the improvement of university teaching is stressed.
