Abstract

The public university is experiencing a crisis of leadership. The main actors in the university community each operate according to their respective educational values in the institutional and academic life of the university. As a result, the university bureaucracy and faculty function with different means and motives. The effects of bureaucratization of leadership have extended to the academic community. In an era of massive changes in the society of knowledge, these factors are contributing to dissatisfaction and a deeply-rooted inertia among university faculty. Amid this scenario, institutional leadership takes on an important value, but it appears to have little influence.
