This paper presents investigation results of the Quality Assessment (AQ)processes in Mexico, with emphasis on the evaluation and/or accreditation in degree programs conducted by the Interinstitutional Committees Assessment in Higher Education (CIEES) and agencies recognized by the Council for Higher Education Assessment (COPAES), respectively. The study was conducted in six Mexican universities, five public institutions and a one private one, in order to assess the students perceptions about the effects of these processes on improving the quality of academic programs. We consider three levels of analysis: the higher education system, teaching management, and teaching. The text is organized into four sections. The first section introduces a brief review on the higher education policy based on the evaluation as its structural axis level, and especially focuses on the evaluation and/or accreditation of degree programs. The second section describes the methodological characteristics of the research to then present the results obtained in the third paragraph. Finally, in the last section we address some conclusions of the study.
