This paper analyzes quality schemes often used in Mexico and Latin America and aims at discovering market-oriented arguments that give substance to the practices of accreditation and institutional evaluation. It outlines a conclusion that the concept of quality in higher education is itself a construction that follows a dynamic context in which the actors involved in higher education, instead of approaching fundamental philosophical questions are following schemes attached to rather pragmatic, market and “isomorphism” related to socio-economic conditions and policies facing the higher education system.
