Two compelling trends that affect the academic mission can be observed in post-secondary education. One is the changes in teaching-learning processes in which the demand for an education based on research puts priority on learning processes which equip the student for life-long learning. The other trend is the use of new technology for information and communication management, which transform the transmission of knowledge and the way research is carried out. What strategies should be implemented to meet these challenges? What will be the impacts of new technology and how can they be measured? These questions lead into potential new areas of research and educational experiences, as well as the need to develop strategies for renewing the university mission and bringing it up to date.
