Abstract

This article treats the topic of graffiti. Graffiti is considered by some an expression of juvenile vandalism, while by others it is regarded as an esthetic expression of urban art. The reflections in this article focus on a recent research project at the British Museum, published in the electronic and digital media. The message is analyzed in the light of the semiotics of likeness, as part of an alternative communication process strategy. The potential for social criticism in the formation of a post-9/11 cultural identity is interpreted.
