Abstract

Cultural changes in information and knowledge are closely related to advances in technology. New technology has an important impact not only on the production of goods and services but also on societal relationships as a whole, including education. The rapid and far-reaching changes brought about by technological progress can be explained, in part, by the accumulation of information, the speed of transmission, overcoming space limitations and the simultaneous use of multiple media (ima-ges, sound and text). As a consequence, these processes are driven not only by technological change, but lie mainly in societal relationships and the leading role played by human beings linked in a network. Given this context, the purpose of the present article is to introduce the basic features of the Biology and Health Science Division’s Virtual Academic Plan, and to describe experiences and accomplishments in digital publishing networks.
