The Professor Improvement Program (PROMEP), alters the university organization since it regulates the contracting mechanisms, also differences professors according to a ‘desirable profile’ recognition; and establishes association rules among academic corps. We made 24 interviews to full time professors, to learn about their hiring process and how they value the PROMEP. We learned the existence of several groups of professors according to when and how they were hired; we describe the habitus of each of them. Our data shows that there is tension among symbolic, formal and bureaucratic hierarchies that is not acknowledged openly. This tension leads to a conflict among professors to legitimate themselves. The problem became of this lack of acknowledgment deteriorates the relationship between academics, and disables the improvement in the quality of education.
