Abstract

Technology is changing museums in various ways. It transforms the museum environment, and, as a tool, stimulates new methods of artistic creation. Together these two factors have an effect on the museum-going public. The rapid progress of digital technology has led to extreme positions. On one hand, doomsayers predict the end of museums, while on the other, museum people speculate on the evolution of the museum. We know that critical reflection is the only way to forestall absolute opinions. This motivates my analysis of the transformations which technology has worked on the container and the contents.
