Abstract

This article begins with data about Mexico’s current economy and society. The relevance of science as a form of knowledge and a lever for development is then explained. The next section gives a brief summary of recommendations by international organizations for the minimum goals Mexico must achieve to become an innovative society. This is followed by a discussion of the importance of education in the process of becoming a knowledge society. In conclusion, guidelines for a government policy in this regard are proposed.
