Abstract

Ideally, as there are a considerable number of institutions of higher learning in the country, Mexican university radio should also have a considerable number of broadcasters across the radio dial. This would be the opposite of the actual situation, as writer Eduardo Galeano describes in his Patas arriba [Upside-down]. A world that teaches us to suffer reality instead of changing it; to forget the past instead of paying attention to it, and to accept the future instead of creating it. This paper turns an ear to the past in order to make sense of the present state of university radio broadcasting. It puts forth a number of ideas for shaping the future of university radio.
