La extensión universitaria y la Universidad Pública

Abstract

University extensions are one of the three basic functions of universities. Nevertheless, they have traditionally been the function to which institutions of higher learning have paid the least attention (Ángeles, 1992). An overview of the types of activities carried out under the auspices of university extension in various Latin American schools shows that this function suffers from a lack of identity. There is a recurring debate about incorporating university extension into the academic organization in institutions of higher learning. Through extension, the university can achieve great momentum in its dialectic relationship with society. Some authors have proposed the need for administrative reform of university extension as a strategy for reinforcing its development in our schools.
