Abstract

Because of the accelerated rate of knowledge production and its incorporation to science and technology, the orientation and structure of educational systems and the pedagogical process demand the incorporation and /or reconversion of the students' literacy abilities in information to foster their performance in information society. Considering the extraordinary growth in the amount of new information, it seems more convenient to teach the individual a method to find, keep and process information than to emphasize the need of students to learn specific contents. Information collection and management consist in the ability to identify information, have access to it, and efficiently use whatever data is necessary for the achievement of our goals. The education of information users has come up as the problem of how to learn to use information efficiently. The acknowledgement that the students' need to acquire abilities in the identification of the purposes of information, its location and use, to learn efficiently, is expressed in learning activities based on problem solving with the students' committment to find their own information and work in an independent way.
