Abstract

In discourse on education, evaluation has taken on a unique importance due to the influence it can have in promoting quality and excellence in an educational system. Theory in the area of evaluation is not always, however, firmly grounded in everyday practice. This being so, in educational systems and in the classroom we face a serious dilemma; whether to attempt to carefully reexamine evaluation, or to continue perpetuating the practice of measures which ignore the subtleties at play in the teaching-learning process. Or can we perhaps find a happy medium? In answer to this question, the University of Mexico School of Nursing and Obstetrics undertook an evaluation experience supported by measurement which sought to fulfill the demands of society and the institution, but above all, to promote a method which involves and respects teachers and students alike and aims to improve the educational process.
