Abstract

This article mentions the main characteristics of Neo-liberal Modernisation in Mexico, and describes their effect on citizens subjectivity, as the context in which the uprising of EZLN took place in Chiapas, first January 1994. It analyses the effects of the uprising on the UAM activities and in civil society. Finally it demonstrates why it can be said that the EZLN is an original and modern type of "guerrilla" that opposes globalisation and neo-liberalism with modern peaceful weapons and even stimulates generation of new knowledge in a period of deep political and theoretical uncertainty.
