Abstract

This essay examines the increasing use of technology in the teaching/learning process. As it proliferates, technology becomes less and less a novelty to us. The article suggests that the problem faced by the majority of educational institutions is one of considering that innovative aspect lies in the distance and in the technology which allows this distance to be reduced. Teaching has until now been taken for granted, in that new ways to apply technology have been explored not only for disctance learning, but also to supplement on-site education. These are mixed models of technological and educational convergence. The Xochimilco Modular System, which the Autonomous Metropolitan University has now been using as an on-site eduactional model for 30 years, would be eminently suitable for the development of a collaborative system with a virtual learning element.
