Abstract

Globalization in modern times has encouraged increasing interchange and progress around the world. With the establishment of blocks such as the European Community, governments have been called on to devise linguistic policies in order to guarantee priority to languages and language learning. The French language is an ongoing participant in national unity efforts in France and Quebec, contributing to cultural diversity in Europe, Africa, and around the world. The present article reflects on the importance of French as a language of international communication, present on all five continents, and whose teaching-learning process is embedded in a perspective of linguistic diversification and the instruction of multilingualism.
