Abstract

The purpose of this essay is to argue that university teachers and institution’s deep understanding of individual, collective, and social ethos, has an equally deep potential to change professional carriers curricula, leading to a plausible repercussion in the construction of the polis. We start questioning the use of the term ethos in the context of professional training in Higher Education. Next, we propose that a conception of ethos as “morada”, as the being itself residing in language and dialogue, leads to curricular design and teaching practices’ change. We then present a small narrative about a teaching experience where students’ ethos were at the centre of academic activities and conclude with a reflection about the Public University ethos and the plausible building up of polis.
