Abstract

The National Polytechnic Institute is not immune from the crisis in public education; rather the crisis takes on particular characteristics which reflect the school’s identity. The Polytechnic identity, consisting of cultural values and their expression by members of the Polytechnic community, and their perception by other universities, is reflected in the attitudes and acts of individuals, particularly students. This article is mainly concerned with examining and understanding identity values in the Polytechnic. The goal is to improve the school’s curricula and programs, to enhance teaching and research, which in turn can serve to enhance the quality of university education. As a first approach to the issue, this study examined attitudes and values, and would be applicable to other universities, including the Autonomous Metropolitan University.
