Abstract

This article begins with an overview of the origins of sociological thought in Europe, its arrival in Mexico, and its reception in intellectual and government circles; its rejection, acceptance and adaptation, followed by institutionalization as a science and academic discipline in terms of research, publications and educational institutes. This is followed by a description of the creation of Veredas as a journal of sociological thought, its editorial policy in relation to the education and research community and its procedure for selecting contributors and for refereeing and preparing articles. The journal is published, produced and distributed and sold at the UAM-Xochimilco library and bookstore, and at other universities through its association with the department and the Social Sciences and Humanities Division.
