Abstract

This article proposes to clarify the concepts Utopia, anti-Utopia, Utopian thought and anti-Utopian thought. They are important ideas in education, as examining them can produce analyses, reflections, and proposals for change and improvement. "Utopia" is a perfect world; an unreal, timeless, unreachable world of the imagination created in a work of fiction. "Utopian thought" may be found in non-fiction writing, including philosophy, politics, sociology, economy, psychology and pedagogy. This article gives specific proposals with the goal of invoking positive societal change. Works identified as Utopian should not be filed away on bookshelves and in museums, but read attentively in search of insights. This article is part of University of Mexico (UNAM) research on these issues.
