Análisis del Examen General de Calidad Profesional para la odontología en México

Abstract

The predominant model of dental care in Mexico is facing several new situations that most probably are going to determine fundamental changes in it. In trying to follow the expected new model of care, as a consecuence, educational models will also be submitted to different and important changes. On the other hand, advances in science and technology will reinforce the need of experimenting new proposals in objectives, contents and actions for teaching and learning. Recent methods for evaluation and control in higher education and professional practice should induce profound questioning and changes in educational models and professional practice, as well as in new methods for their evaluation. Amongst the new instruments for evaluation, the "Examen General de Calidad Profesional en Odontología (EGCP-O)" (General Examination of Professional Quality in Dentistry) presents several characteristics that should be carefully analyzed since its beggining, in order to reach its real purposes. In the present paper it is intended to revise, discuss, analyze, comment and propose some recommendations for EGCP-O in order to have better objectives, contents and ways of operation, as well as better actions for its own evaluation.
