Abstract

To speak of multiculturalism is to allude to a variety of intermingled and overlapping concepts. It is well known that cultural diversity carries with it concepts of identity, pluralism, tolerance, universality, difference, boundaries, and relativism, to name only a few. My intention here is not to become bogged down in definitions, analyses or interpretations of these concepts. There are others who have accomplished this task brilliantly, and no doubt even more who could extend and improve these conceptualizations. In this paper, I intend to focus on the University and its potential roles in the context of multiculturalism and the current globalization process.
