Abstract

Why should we study the values, identity and professional ethics of students? There is ample justification for research on the subject; sound reason why the university should not neglect the topic. Research along these lines will contribute to improving education as it aids in directing or redirecting educational processes in our universities. Through the knowledge gained, programs can be based not only on requirements imposed by outside agencies but also on the opinions of students, who are, after all, the recipients of such education. This paper presents the results of a study of undergraduate history students. The study attempted to identify students’ professional values and explain the way they balanced their social, professional, educational expectations and childhood goals, and how these factors contributed to the formation of their identities.
