Abstract

With today’s knowledge explosion, science writing has a fundamental role as a counterweight to entertainment and the popular media. The banal, homogenous culture of the masses, who, if they donot denigrate, are at least ignorant of intellectual work, makes science writing even more important It is not so much that there is a plot against intelligence, but that such a conspiracy is unnecessary when success depends on opportunism and lack of solidarity. Science education journals can help to reverse, at least to some degree, a utilitarian view of text books, enriching readers’ appreciation of their contents. Moreover, the gap between the humanities and science is narrower in the field of education.
