Abstract

Chicano feminism has had many currents which have fed ideological and political thought and strategy throughout the entire twentieth century. These include local, national and international meetings which have served as platforms for exchanges between women about the need for development and freedom from injustice, intolerance and disrespect. Women have fought through organizations and social movements where they have made their demands for education, equal work for equal pay, maternity leave, child care, self-determination, sexual health information and equal political participation and leadership. Progress in the theory of issues of race, class, ethnic minorities and lesbian feminism has helped the identity of the new Chicano woman to develop in the context of woman's emancipation.
