Abstract

As professional education makes significant advances, it involves issues that have taken on worldwide improtance because they have an impact on the needs of all society. One of these issues is the ethics of professional journalists. Journalists’ responsibilities are not, however, covered in the curriculum in the majority of schools of communication, even though these institutions aim not only to teach their students but to contribute to their full professional development as individuals who are part of their historical and cultural context. Ever since journalism was first recognized as a profession, its ethics, too, have always been a subject of study. The virtues and achievements of journalism have been increasingly recognized since the 1990s, but also its hazards, and the control exercised by the society served by journalism.
