Abstract

It is always a challenge to try to determine whether Chicanos see Mexico as an actual place where they can celebrate their differences, if these differences are distinguished from those that separate them from (and bring them closer to) Americans, and/or if Chicanos constitute the border; the dividing line; the margin. The answer is probably a cultural bridge, a passageway that allows the flow of traffic (Mexican culture to the American side, and American, perhaps, to the Mexican of Mexico) but has its own cultural space which does not belong to one side or the other, but joins two centers of power.
