Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the association between activities which university academic staff must carry out to meet the requirements of a grants and incentives program, and the consequences of this participation in the program on their academic work and their physical and mental health. A cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study was performed using a representative random sample. A survey was applied to collect demographic, work and health data. The most important requirements were increased workload, longer workdays and uncomfortable positions. Five of seven consequences of participation in the program are characterized as negative, and are statistically associated with disorders such as stress, musculoskeletal disorders, fatigue, hoarseness, anxiety and sleep disorders.
