Roles para la docencia universitaria concordantes con las demandas educacionales del nuevo siglo
Abstract
The educational needs of the new century call for substantial changes in student and teacher roles in conventional university education. This paper describes five internal and six external changes of recent decades which affect the internal and external efficiency of academic and professional training, allowing young people and adults to devise a personal life plan for their involvement in society. Based on the application of both real and virtual undergraduate learning environments at the University of Santiago de Chile, key tasks consistent with modern educational requirements are identified in the roles of students and professors through learning and teaching situations. The paper concludes with a brief commentary on the new challenges which the new roles of university education imply for teachers in the third millennium.
